Bridge the
Communication Gap.
Many DHH students arrive at TEACH with limited Indian Sign Language (ISL), little to no English, and no exposure to the kind of communication skills needed in professional environments. This gap often extends to their own homes where parents and siblings may not know ISL, making meaningful family communication difficult.
In the workplace too, communication becomes a barrier, as employers and colleagues often lack the basic ISL needed to connect with Deaf and hard-of-hearing team members. Bridging these gaps is essential, not just for education and employment, but for inclusion, confidence, and connection.
TEACH’s language program addresses these issues to bridge the communication gap among youth, families and corporates via ISL and English Development Program.

Why there is a communication gap?
Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students often grow up with limited access to spoken language, which impacts how they learn English. In many mainstream school settings, teaching is not supported by Indian Sign Language (ISL), making it difficult for DHH students to fully access classroom instruction. As a result, students receive limited exposure to English vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure in their everyday learning environment. Over time, this gap widens as academic content becomes more complex, affecting their ability to understand lessons, express themselves clearly, and communicate with confidence.
The English Development Program (EDP) is designed to bridge this communication gap. It offers structured, visual, and activity-based learning approaches that align with how DHH students best understand and retain information. Through step-by-step exposure, real-life communication practice, use of assistive technology, and a clear progression from basic to advanced levels, EDP helps students build a strong foundation in English. Beyond language skills, the program also focuses on building confidence, independence, and readiness for higher education and employment.

Our Alumni
Muskan Sheikh was just 11 years old when her life took a sudden turn. A hearing test revealed that she had 100% hearing impairment, news that her family struggled to accept.

Her elder brother, grappling with his own frustrations in life, directed much of his anger toward her. Two years later, the death of her father added another layer of grief and instability, leaving Muskan in the care of her overwhelmed mother and brothers.
Her mother worked long hours at a small stationary shop, while her brothers, unable to accept Muskan’s disability, turned on her. Muskan became the victim of frequent beatings, with even the smallest of matters triggering violent reactions. She felt trapped in a world where darkness overshadowed any hope for change.
